Fulham brought in three players of Nigerian descent namely Ademola Lookman, Tosin Adarabioyo, and Ola Aina before the close of the summer transfer window in their push to remain in the Premier League.
And the trio especially Lookman has been massive for the Cottagers who have lost just once in their last five games and that was a way to Manchester City.
Taking stock of the 2020-2021 season so far, football statistics website Whoscored has come up with the best new signing XI, comprising players who switched clubs before the window closed for business.
In a 4-3-3 formation, Lookman was picked as one of the three midfielders along with Everton’s Allan and Tottenham Hotspur’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
Chelsea has contributed three players to the best XI – Thiago Silva, Ben Chilwell, and Timo Werner – same as Aston Villa with three in the shape of Emiliano Martinez, Matty Cash, and Ollie Watkins.
Leicester City’s Wesley Fofana and Everton’s James Rodriguez complete the best XI.
On Lookman, who was rated at 7.13, Whoscored wrote: “Ademola Lookman’s introduction to the Fulham first-team, following his summer move from RB Leipzig, coincided with the Cottagers’ serious up-turn in form. Fulham has lost all four matches Lookman has not started in the Premier League, whereas they have taken points in six of the 10 matches he has started.
“The 23-year-old has played a direct hand in four league goals so far (two goals, two assists), while only three players are making a successful dribble more frequently than him (every 27.8 minutes)”.
In order to qualify, a new signing, loan or permanent, must have made at least seven appearances in the Premier League this season.
